Best Dip Belts

As a collegiate athlete who has trained in several small to world-class gyms, I’ve been able to test out different types of Dip Belts on the market.

However, out of the seven Dip Belts that we got to test and research, we recommend the Rogue Dip Belt because of its high weight capacity and overall durability. You will never need another dip belt again if you take care of the Rogue Dip Belt.

The Rogue Dip Belt comes equipped with a comfort-fit and reinforced nylon body with heavy stitching. The stitching and construction with the beastly chain are what sets this bet apart. The links will not open and the chains will not bend when it is loaded heavy.

It withstands over 29,400 pounds due to the design. They folded the belt onto itself on both of its ends, making small loops where the rings attach.

With this design, the weight can be evenly distributed throughout the whole belt instead of a certain point.

Dip Belt Buying Guide

What Is A Dip Belt?

A dip belt or dipping belt is a belt that wraps around your waist and provides you the ability to add more resistance by weight plates or kettlebell to your body to make certain exercises more challenging.

This can promote hypertrophy and progressive overload your muscles, allowing your human body to adapt to the new stressor. Over time, your muscle will repair itself and become stronger.

You find most dip belts with a chain and tail for attaching the weight onto. Usually these plates or kettlebells dangle between your legs allowing you to do pull ups and dips with added resistance.

The Benefits Of Using A Dip Belt

Adds Variety To Your Workout

Using a dip belt is great for pull ups, tricep dips and other exercises. It allows you to progressive overload while targeting specific muscles. This is a great way to push past plateaus on your big lifts if you get stuck at a certain weight.

Safety

Dipping Belts are a great accessory to reduce the pressure from the spine as the weight hangs from your waist and between your legs. This transfers the weight to your glutes, quads, and hamstrings offering a more balanced weight distribution.

It is also much safer than holding a dumbbell between your feets so you don’t have to worry about the weight falling.

Durable and One Time Purchase

Dip Belts are made out of robust materials design and construction. Their chains are meant to last decades and stitching made to withstands hundreds of lbs of weight. As a result, you should only need to buy a dipping belt once in a lifetime and enjoy their long term use.

Improves Stamina and Body Strength

As you move more weight, the stronger and bigger your muscles will get. With more reps, you will be constantly and progressively overloading the muscle where you also boost your cardiovascular system and overall your stamina.

What To Look For When Purchasing A Dip Belt

Material of the Weighted Dip Belt

Most high quality dip belts are made out of nylon or leather. Each material has their benefits and disadvantages.

Leather

Leather is a great material if it’s made out of high-quality leather. However, inferior leather is made from a split grain leather which has a weak fiber structure resulting in the belt being easily torn.

Make sure you understand the type of leather before your purchase as it may break and tear at the wrong moment.

Nylon

Nylon dip belts are cheaper than leather and can be as strong in terms of weight capacity. However, they can be uncomfortable and dig into your skin. These are a great choice if you’re on a budget, just make sure the belt and the straps are wide enough so they do not dig into your hips.

Size and Length Of The Weighted Dip Belt

Dip belts are usually one size fit all. As the belt is wrapped around your back and fits comfortably, it will fall when you are performing your exercise.

When you are looking for a weighted dipping belt, check which options are available and make adjustments according to your size as a few companies do make dip belts fit to specific sizes.

Chain or Strap for Weighted Dip Belt

Chain

The strap or chain can hold a lot of weight but can be damaged by the plates or kettlebell. It is hard to find a comfortable fit around the waist with a chain but it is very durable.

Nylon Strap

Nylon is lighter and won’t weigh you down. You can secure a nylon strap around your waist tightly so it won’t slip but you will need a loading pin to attach the weight. It doesn’t hurt the finish of a weight plate or kettle plate unlike using a chain weighted dip belt.

Chain Length

Chains go through the center of your weight plate or kettlebell while the belt goes around your back. The length of the desired chain depends on your planned workout.

If you have a higher platform or you are tall, you can use a longer chain for something like squats, pull ups, or chin ups.

For dips and core exercises or if you’re shorter, we recommend finding a shorter chain.

Durability of Stitching

The best quality dip belt lasts for years, sometimes decades if you take care of the belt and you make sure the durability of the stitching.

Always check the attachment points and stitching of the chains as these are the common failure point and the biggest separator between a quality dip belt and a bad dip belt.

How To Use A Dip Belt

Wearing a weighted Dip Belt is very easy.

Here are the steps:

  1. Begin by taking the belt and wrapping it around your waist. Make sure it fits snug and the carabiner is on your right side.
  2. Take the end with the carabiner and put through the carabiner through the D loop on your left side of the belt.
  3. Pull the chain through the D loop until the belt is fitting snug around your waist.
  4. Take the chain and loop in through the hole of your weight plate or kettlebell.
  5. Clip the carabiner and then clip that to the D ring on your right
  6. You’re ready to start exercising safely.

Exercise Routines Using A Weighted Dip Belt

Pull Ups and Chin Ups

Pull ups and chin ups are the ultimate test of your upper body muscular strength and are one of the very few bodyweight movements that work both your biceps and back. It is a good indicator of how stable, strong, and functional your body is.

Here is how to do a perfect pull up or chin up:

  1. Begin by taking the belt and wrapping it around your waist. Make sure it fits snug and the carabiner is on your right side. Take the end with the carabiner and put through the carabiner through the D loop on your left side of the belt.
  2. Pull the chain through the D loop until the belt is fitting snug around your waist. Take the chain and loop in through the hole of your weight plate or kettlebell.Clip the carabiner and then clip that to the D ring on your right
  3. Then lean up and grip the bar with your hands about shoulder width apart and have your palms facing away from you if you are doing a pull up. If you are doing a chin up, have your palms facing towards you.
  4. Keep your core engaged and your shoulder back throughout and then pull yourself up. Focus on using every upper body muscle to raise you up.
  5. Move slowly upwards until your chin is above the bar, then slowly downwards until your arms are extended again.
  6. Aim for around 10 to 16 pull ups as a good baseline goal.

Belt Squats

Hip belt squats emphasize the legs while loading less onto your spine and lower body, which is perfect if you had any past injuries or any torso or upper limb limitations.

This allows you to train legs in a high volume set with higher load without lumbar fatigue which you get from back squats.

  1. Find two sturdy boxes that you can have one leg on each box. You will be performing your squats here.
  2. Next take your dip belt and wrap it around your waist. Make sure it fits snug and the carabiner is on your right side. Take the end with the carabiner and put through the carabiner through the D loop on your left side of the belt.
  3. Pull the chain through the D loop until the belt is fitting snug around your waist. Take the chain and loop in through the hole of your weight plate or kettlebell. Clip the carabiner and then clip that to the D ring on your right
  4. Begin squatting down while both feet are on the box
  5. Make sure to keep your hips and knees facing outwards. Having your feet pointed 45 degrees can help create stability.
  6. Going back down and up is one rep.

FAQs for Dip Belts

What If The Weighted Dip Belt Chain Is Too Short

Most belts come with 30” chains which are long enough to support up to three 45 lbs plates. However, people may have girthier waists and may need bigger chains.
You can either make sure to purchase a longer chained dip belt or purchase an addon look to your normal link of chains. You can easily open and close it by sliding a “Quick Links” and hooking it up to your original chain.
You have to make sure the Quick Links can support the extra weight, we recommend over 500+ lb weight capacity to ensure your safety.

How Much Weight Can A Dip Belt Hold

Depending on the weight dip belt it can hold from 100 lbs to a massive 29,400 lbs if you have a unique design like the Rogue Dip Belt.
Most nylon loading straps will hold around 270 lbs and low quality belts will have at least 100 lbs. When looking for belts, make sure the capacity means the whole belt, not just the chain.

Conclusion

When choosing a Dip Belt, there are many factors to consider. Your budget, your fitness level, and amount of weights you have.

The stitching and construction with the beastly chain is what sets this bet apart. The links will not open and the chains will not bend when it is loaded heavy.

It withstands over 29,400 pounds due to the design. They folded the belt onto itself on both of it’s ends, making small loops where the rings attach.

With this design, the weight can be evenly distributed throughout the whole belt instead of a certain point.

If you’re looking for a Nylon Dip Belt instead, we recommend the Fire Team Fit Weighted Belt with Chain.

The Fire Team Fit Weighted Dip belt comes with a 34” chain that is long enough to tighten around the waists of average lifters. But if you are an individual that has high lean muscle mass, you may need a longer chain to hold the weight further away from your crotch.

This can be fixed as they also provide a 40” chain that comes with the Fire Team Fit Dip Belt. As it is made with neoprene, it will contour around your muscles without making your body chaf or uncomfortable.
